President Donald Trump will nominate Richard Ashooh as an assistant secretary of commerce, export administration. This role falls under the Bureau of Industry and Security, which aims to "Advance U.S. national security, foreign policy and economic objectives by ensuring an effective export control and treaty compliance system and promoting continued U.S. strategic technology leadership."

Ashooh is director of economic partnerships at the University System of NH and was a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives representing NH's 1st District, running in 2010 and 2016 and losing both primaries to Frank Guinta.

Ashooh has also worked as executive director of the Warren Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership & Public Service at the UNH School of Law in Concord, and previously spent over two decades as a senior executive in the aerospace industry, starting his career with Lockheed Martin and then BAE Systems. He has also held senior positions in corporate strategy, homeland security and public affairs. Earlier in his career, Ashooh was a professional staff member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, with a concentration on federal procurement policies.
